A Brief History

Welcome to Has Beans Brooklyn, originally started as J.B. Loucks Merchants in 1976.  By 1979 in San Francisco’s Fillmore district we became known as Has Beans.  For the next 15 years we had stores around San Francisco and a small stint in Paris, France.

In 1994 we opened a Certified Organic Roasting Plant in Mt Shasta, California, which to this day provides beans to all our current locations.

Has Beans was founded by J.B. Loucks and current owner Peggy Gandrau over 30 years ago and is still running strong.  In the summer of 2004 Peggy left California, moving and immediately falling in love with Park Slope Brooklyn where she wasted little time before opening on 5th Ave.   J.B. Loucks currently lives in Paris, France where he roasts for a local brand.   The California operation is still running strong under new owner Willem Vonk, who still provides us with the quality beans that make our mornings worthwhile.

Thanks again,
Your Friends at Has Beans Brooklyn

We now have a Blog area that leads you to all the good and bad comments I could find online, so I hope you enjoy that feature.

Below is a List of some blogs I found. If I've missed yours just let me know!

Yelp "Real People, Real Reviews"
Great Coffee...French Roast is my personal fave, and judging by the amount of times either I or someone else has asked the person behind the counter to refill the French Roast, I'm not alone in my coffee of choice there.

...as it turns out, the organic mocha java was really excellent coffee. I mean, really good. So good that we had to pull back after a sip and talk about how good it was. It's very dark and smooth, with chocolate tones and a slick syrup texture, but none of that sourness I hate in some lighter blends.

Post Punk Kitchen
Is sooo adorable and has yummy things! I had a ginger spice soy latte (he managed to get tooons of foam! love it!) and a cinnamon raison scone. SO delish.
